The area is known for its hiking trails and has a starting point for the famous Buitreras canyon walk with great places for picnics and swimming.The village also has a small local railway station (Algerciras to Granada ) stopping at local villages and Ronda ,famous for it tourist attractions . Gibralta with it airport and Malaga airport can be accessed by car, 1 hour to Gibraltar and under 2 hours to Malaga or also by local train and bus or taxi making El Colmenar great as a holiday home or rental , the coast and golf is 1 hours drive away. 

El Colmenar its self has all the facillities you need on a daily basis ,bank, bakers, school ,pharmacy, shops bars and restaurants,the village people are friendly and helpful  ,a proper spanish village , that still celebrate its traditions.
